Looking back on our journey from Connecticut to Kentucky, it feels surreal. From chaos and sirens to rolling hills and quiet mornings, every step taught us something new about life, home, and ourselves.

What We’ve Learned

1. Intentional Living Is Worth the Leap

Leaving the familiar is terrifying, but the chance to design a life around your values—space, animals, community—is priceless.

2. Community Changes Everything

It’s not just about the house or the land. Friendly neighbors, local events, and shared stories make a place feel alive. Kentucky taught us that connection is as vital as any physical space.

3. Expect the Unexpected

From giant spiders to furniture hunts and moving logistics, challenges will pop up. Embrace them—they make the successes even sweeter.

4. Opportunities Appear When You’re Open

Finding jobs was easier than we imagined. I started at Walgreens, then moved to Bluegrass Foundation Repair, where I love my admin work and have gained insight into real estate and foundations. Jimmy got his dream job at the library and now works at the local vet’s office, closer to home and aligned with his passions.

5. Small Joys Matter

Quiet mornings, stars in the night sky, distant cows, and a friendly wave from a neighbor—these little things add up to a life that feels full and meaningful.

Advice for Anyone Considering a Move

• Do your research—but visit first. Seeing a place firsthand changes everything.

• Plan for logistics—but expect chaos. Storage units, animals, and packing will test you.

• Embrace the community. Say hi, attend events, and get involved.

• Be flexible with work. Jobs may appear in unexpected ways, and new skills often come from surprising places.

• Celebrate every win. From your first quiet morning to your first harvest from the garden, these moments define the journey.

Moving to Kentucky wasn’t just a change of address—it was a change of life. We gained space, peace, and connection. We learned how powerful it can be to step away from the familiar and embrace the unknown.

If you’re considering your own leap, know this: it will be messy, emotional, and overwhelming—but it could also be the best decision of your life.
